Hors d'oeuvres can be an excellent compliment to the pre-meal cocktail reception, or as elaborate and bountiful to take the place of a full meal. For an extra special touch, ask your caterer to have servers pass the individual hors d'oeuvres at no extra charge!

General Thoughts

Select a mixture of hors d'oeuvres, keeping in mind color and texture. Provide at least an estimated one per person of each kind of hors d'oeuvre you select. Some guests will take more of one and none of something else.


Numbers of Hors d'oeuvres

Types of Hors d'oeuvres Purpose
3-5 per person Ideal for a pre-meal cocktail reception.
8-12 per person Perfect for a light hors d'oeuvre reception, especially for an evening reception that starts after the dinner period (7:00 pm).
16-20 per person Works extraordinarily well for hors d'oeuvre reception in place of a full sit-down or buffet dinner. This would work perfectly if you are looking for an informal affair.


A 20% gratuity and a 3% service charge and applicable sales tax will be added to all food and beverage items.
